How To Extend The Life of Your Harvest Right Premier Pump
Your Harvest Right Freeze Dryer's Vacuum Pump is an important component. Regular oil changes and cleaning keep it running efficiently and prevent costly damage. In this guide, here are some guidelines on how to maintain your Premier Pump, plus how to clean the Demister and replace the reservoir.
Why Pump Maintenance Matters
To maintain and extend the lifespan of your Harvest Right Premier Pump, change the oil every 20–30 batches— or sooner if it appears dirty, cloudy, or milky. If oil isn't changed frequently, food particles can build up inside the pump, and trapped water can lead to rust and eventual pump failure.
It's also recommended to thoroughly clean the pump every few months to keep it running smoothly.

How to Clean Your Premier Pump
- Drain all oil into a filter, or discard it if dirty.
- Remove the 4 screws around the reservoir, then carefully slide the reservoir off (some oil may spill).
- Wipe the interior and pump assembly with a warm, damp cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners.
- Check metal parts for rust, and gently remove any buildup with fine steel wool or rust remover if needed.
- Dry all parts thoroughly. Replace the gasket and slide the reservoir back on, ensuring it's seated properly.
- Tighten the screws and refill with oil until it is 3/4 full. If significant moisture or residue was found, flush the pump with small amounts of clean oil until it runs clear.
